The studios we work with are located in the downtown LA area. Ample parking is available, including free and paid lots/meters.
Can I bring someone with me to my Session?
Absolutely! The more the merrier. We welcome friends, family and significant others. If you’re more comfortable being on your own, that’s absolutely fine as well :)
How long is a Session?
Generally, each Look takes approximately 30 minutes on average. Our goal is to capture the best Images possible, while working with your time needs. If you need more time to get ready between Looks, we won’t make you feel rushed.
If you need to be finished as quickly as possible, we’ll work with your schedule. If you’re able to tell us your time needs prior to the Session, we’ll happily ensure we work with your requests.
What is a Look?
A Look is a clothing and/or backdrop/background change.
Each clothing change may be photographed against the same, or different backdrop/background. The choice is yours with guidance provided by Mark.
Having different Looks gives you a greater variety of Photos to choose from. This makes the process of updating your online Images easy (a great feature to have with today’s constant demand for visual updates).
How many Images do you take per Look?
Approximately 10 Images are captured per Look. Our goal is to capture the best Images possible, while working with your time needs. If we need to take more than 10 Images to ensure you’re completely happy, we will. If you’re happy with the first few Images and you’d like to move on, we will.
Will I be able to see the Images during the Session?
Absolutely! Images are previewed during the Session to ensure you’re more than happy with the Photos.
Images on the back of the camera are set to black and white when previewed. This helps keep the focus on pose, expression and details that tend to get lost when viewing previews in color.
All Images are delivered in color, with the option for black and white versions created during postproduction, at no additional charge.
When will I receive my Images?
Pls. allow a minimum turnaround time of five (5) business days for all deliveries, including Retouched Images. If you need a quicker turnaround, pls. let us know when booking your Session, and we will be more than happy to ensure we meet your deadline.
Do I get to keep all the Images from our Session?
Yes! You receive all Images from your Session.
How will I receive my Images?
All Images are delivered via an online password protected private Gallery. Instructions on how to access the Gallery and your Images are included at the time of delivery.
All Images are downloadable via the online password protected Gallery in both Web Size (low) and Original (highest) resolution. Original resolution Images are suitable for print, while Web Size resolution Images are perfect for LinkedIn and other social media profiles.
Pls. ensure you download, save and backup all of your Images in both Web Size and Original resolution for future use. We recommend backing up your Images on an external hard drive and in a cloud based service like Dropbox or Google Drive.
You can also favorite Images and share your private Gallery and favorites with friends, family, partners and colleagues. Friends, family, partners and colleagues can also recommend their favorites as well. Prints in various sizes and finishes are also available for purchase via the online Gallery.
A personalized Mobile Web App of your Gallery will also be available, for quick and easy viewing and sharing of your Images.
What is the Always Online Feature?
Computers break down, files inexplicably disappear, hard drives mysteriously stop working. We’ve got you covered. All of our Sessions include the Always Online Feature: all of your Images are stored in a web based cloud at no additional charge. This allows easy access to your Gallery whenever and wherever, and can be added to, as your Image library evolves and grows.
In what format will I receive my Images?
All Images are delivered as downloadable JPG files at maximum and web resolution, unless otherwise requested at the time of booking.
JPG is a universally accepted Image format that can be accessed and viewed across virtually all devices. JPGs are easily shared via social media sites, email, and uploaded for use on websites.
Fun fact: JPG or JPEG is named for the group (Joint Photographic Experts Group) that created the file format.
What is the difference between a RAW, Edited and a Retouched Image?
A RAW Image is created when Mark clicks the button on a digital camera: the camera saves the Image data captured on the sensor in an unedited and uncompressed format on the memory card.
RAW files take up a lot of digital space and are not a universally accepted file format. They are the starting point for Mark to add his singular Editing style.
An Edited Image is an Image that has been adjusted for cropping, brightness, contrast and color treatment, as necessary.
A Retouched Image is an Image that involves the use of a Photo Editing App (like Photoshop) for cosmetic enhancement of the Subject in the Image.
Will my Images be RAW, Edited or Retouched?
All Images from your Session will be Edited by Mark, i.e., they will be adjusted for cropping, brightness, contrast and color treatment, as necessary.
Many of our Sessions include Retouching on your Image(s). For Sessions that do not include Retouching, or Retouching requests on additional Images, Retouching is $50 per Image.
As RAW files take up a lot of digital space, are not a universally accepted file format, and act as the starting point for Mark to add his singular Editing style, we do not release them to our Clients.
If you require RAW files of your Images, we offer an industry standard Buy Out fee. Pls. feel free to contact us for more information.

• Reducing the appearance of dark circles under the eyes

• Eliminating distracting stray hairs

Retouching beyond the above included (such as removing logos, replacing backgrounds and/or adding digital effects) is available and quotes are provided upon request.
Do you charge extra for Retouching?
Many of our Sessions include Retouching on your Image(s). For Sessions that do not include Retouching, or Retouching requests on additional Images, Retouching is $50 per Image.

Do you recommend Hair and Makeup Artists?
Some Clients are excellent at applying their own makeup and styling their own hair, some have a friend/professional they trust, while others feel uncomfortable wearing makeup or having someone style their hair.
Hiring a Hair and Makeup Artist is solely the Client’s discretion, as it is additional to the Session Fee. If you plan to do it yourself, we have a few tips:
• Avoid cutting your hair days before the shoot, just in case you’re not happy with it
• When wearing makeup, it’s best to start with a light application: it’s always easier and more time efficient to apply more, than to take away or start over if the makeup is looking too heavy in the Image previews
• Choose makeup that does not contain any sunscreen, as it tends to add additional, unwanted shine
• Bring your makeup with you to the Session for touchups
If you prefer to hire a professional, our Makeup and Hair Artist is exceptional and a true pleasure to work with. Pls. feel free to contact him directly for his rates and availability:

Will I have time to shave, style or change my hair and/or makeup?
Absolutely! Our goal is for you to look and feel your best.
Do you recommend Stylists?
Personal style is personal, and an important aspect of portraiture.
Mark offers personal style advice. Prior to your Session, pls. feel free to send us selfies via text or email of wardrobe Looks you are planning.
We recommend bringing to the Session a variety of options for clothing and accessories (shoes/jewelry/scarves etc.) so we can capture what looks best.
Mark also offers a more in-depth Personal Style Consultation that includes a day of accompanied shopping. Pls. feel free to contact us for more info.
If you plan to style yourself, we have a few tips to consider:
• Generally, solid colors work best. Your face and eyes should be the most engaging things in the photo, and patterns or logos tend to distract a viewer’s gaze
• Keep in mind that fit is the most important thing. How clothes hang is more important than the actual garment.
When is the best time to schedule my Session?
If possible, schedule your Session for the morning. This way you’ll only have to get ready once during the day, and you can bring your best and freshest self to the Shoot.
If you’re not a morning person, pls. feel free to schedule at a time that works best for you.

Mark Maryanovich Photography retains the exclusive title and copyright in and to all results of our/our subcontractor’s services, including all products, Images, negatives and digital files created and produced during the Session.
If you would like to own the exclusive title and copyright in addition to your exclusive right and license, we offer an industry standard Buy Out fee. Pls. feel free to contact us for more information.
Do I need to credit you?
We understand that not all situations involving your Images are able to include a credit.
If you are able to include a credit of “photo by Mark Maryanovich” we’d truly appreciate it.
If you’re able to include a credit and link to Images used on the internet with “photo by markmaryanovich.com” and tag Mark on social media using “photo by @markmaryanovich” that would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.
As Mark is the Exclusive Photographer for your Session, if any Behind the Scenes Images/Images taken by others during your Session can be credited with “photo courtesy of Mark Maryanovich Photography” and a link to https://markmaryanovich.com provided with these Images used on the internet, that also would be fantastic and super appreciated.
If these Images are posted on social media sites, a tag of “photo courtesy of @markmaryanovich” would also be much appreciated, thank you :)
Will you direct me in my posing?
Absolutely! If you need help with posing, Mark keeps his directions simple and easy to follow. He’ll guide you into different poses and make sure you look your best. He’ll also reveal the one direction that brings out the best angle for a Professional Portrait.
What’s your style of shooting?
Mark’s style of shooting can best be described as organic. A lot of what he loves about his work is meeting the Client. Almost immediately, he’s able to sense an inner quality about them that would be best to present to the world, that encapsulates their essence as an individual.
It’s one of the most exciting aspects that makes Mark look forward to every shoot, and also ensures that each shoot is as unique as the Client he is capturing.
Mark’s Clients find him very easy to work with. He’s been described as having a ‘mild demeanor’ that allows his Clients to relax and makes them feel comfortable during the Session.
What equipment do you use?
Mark uses Canon cameras and lenses. His lighting kit includes an Interfit S1 flash, Octabox diffuser, portable ring light and tri colored eye light reflector. Additional lighting equipment is available and included with studio rentals.
Do you prefer studio or natural light?
Fun Fact: The word photography has been literally translated from the Greek words phōtós (“light”), and graphê (“drawing or writing”) to mean drawing or writing with light. This illuminates (so to speak :) the importance of lighting in Images, and is often the key difference you’ll see between Images taken by a professional and a hobbyist.
Mark is extremely experienced in using both studio and natural light, and will often combine both options to provide the best Images possible.
His studio lighting kit is portable and includes a tri-color reflector to bounce or shade naturally occurring light.
What if I’m not photogenic and/or I don’t like having my picture taken?
Join the club! Mark feels more comfortable behind the camera and is very sensitive to how most people feel about having their photo taken.
Mark’s been described as having a ‘mild demeanor’ that allows his Clients to relax and makes them feel comfortable during the Session.
His low key style is a rare gift that makes you feel as if you’re not having your photo taken at all, and he is a master at finding the most photogenic angles for every person he captures.
TIME SAVING CHECKLIST
It’s a good idea to check the following list before you leave for your Session (and it can save you time and money in going back to grab/scheduling an Uber or Lyft to pick up forgotten items):
• All of your clothing. Double check that your tops, bottoms, dresses, jewelry, ties have been packed, along with plenty of options including shoes and accessories
• Your instrument(s), case and accessories (guitar strap, drum sticks, etc.) as applicable
• Your makeup/comb/hairbrush/hair products. Even if hiring a hair and makeup artist, having your own supply you’re comfortable with is good to have on hand
• The one random thing you’ve been contemplating bringing: bring it. An article of clothing or jewelry, or your favorite jacket, it’s better to have it and not use it, than want to use it and not have it
• Keep your clothes in a plastic covering and your accessories and makeup/comb/hair brush in clear plastic bags so you can quickly see that you have everything you need, instead of having to reopen bags to check
• It’s helpful to group everything you’d like to bring to your Session in one place, to both save time and ensure you bring everything with you
• Traffic and parking. Always allow for plenty of time to get to the studio or location. It makes for a much more enjoyable Session when you arrive on time and feeling relaxed
• While you’re on your way to your location, thinking about and understanding why you’re having this Photo Session, and what you hope to gain from it can be helpful to make sure we achieve and exceed what you have in mind.

BUSINESS HEADSHOT FAQ:
Collapsible content
How long is a Business Headshot Session?
Generally, each Look takes approximately 30 minutes on average. Our goal is to capture the best Business Portraits possible, while working with your time needs. If you need more time to get ready between Looks, you won’t feel rushed.
If you need to be finished as quickly as possible, we’ll work with your schedule. If you’re able to tell us your time needs prior to the Session, we’ll happily ensure we work with your requests.
What should I wear for my Business Headshot Session?
Wardrobe is an important aspect of a Professional Business Headshot.
Mark offers personal style advice. Prior to your Session, pls. feel free to send us selfies via text or email of wardrobe Looks you are planning.
We recommend bringing to the Session a variety of options for clothing and accessories (shoes/ties/jewelry/scarves etc.) so we can capture what looks best.
Mark also offers a more in-depth Personal Style Consultation that includes a day of accompanied shopping. Pls. feel free to contact us for more info.
If you plan to style yourself, we have a few tips to consider:
• Generally solid colors work best, no patterns or logos. Black is always great and really highlights the face, which should be the first thing someone sees in a great Business Portrait.
• Keep in mind that fit is the most important thing. How clothes hang is more important than the actual garment.
• Ideally, the best Business Headshots showcase your personality and unique value proposition. This can be achieved through clothing and accessories. A scarf/tie in a signature color, or a favorite jewelry piece can establish your brand.
• Dressing as you would for a Very Important Client meeting is a good frame of reference.
• While most Business Headshots feature the Subject from the waist up, pls. bring matching pants/skirts etc. They may be featured in certain poses, and also add to your overall confidence and sense of professionalism portrayed in your Images. Think of how you might feel in an elegant top worn with a pair of sweat pants, rather than in matching attire. The difference may be slight, though we want you to feel your very best during the Session.
How often should I update my Business Headshot?
While the industry standard is usually every 1 to 2 years, there are a few things to consider:
• The best Business Portraits act as a visual introduction to prospects, potential Clients, employers and employees, and are most effective if they establish trust. If you look very different from your current professional headshot, it may affect the trust you’ve created online.
• The world is a visual place and today, people have grown accustomed to seeing fresh Imagery every time they check their feeds.
• Many social media sites send notifications when profile pictures change; this can be a great way to stay top of mind within your online community.
• Posting a new Image is also a way to engage with followers, inviting comments and likes. We understand how important it is in today’s feedback age to give you Images you’ll feel confident sharing.
• Need a hand sizing and optimizing Images for each or every online platform? We’re happy to help. Pls. contact us for further details.
Should I have my Business Headshot Session take place at my office / workplace or in Studio?
The choice is yours. If you feel your place of work/office environment is an important aspect you’d like your Business Headshot to incorporate, Mark is more than happy to come to you: all of his equipment is portable.
A background that suits your interests/uniqueness (such as a beach setting/textured wall, or prop such as a motorcycle, if that’s a large part of your life) can set the stage for what Clients can expect when working with you, and establish common interests. Mark can meet you at any location you like.
If you’re looking for a more standard headshot that focuses solely on your facial expression rather than the background, a Studio Session would be a good fit. If you’ve never been photographed in a professional photo studio before, it is a unique and interesting experience.
The studios we work with are located in the downtown LA area. Ample parking is available, including free and paid lots/meters.
Do you shoot Business Headshots on location?
Yes! Mark loves to shoot on location and all of his equipment is portable.
Mark can meet you at any location you like, to capture a very exclusive and customized Business Portrait.
Do you shoot Business Headshots in horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait) orientation?
Mark provides a variety of Images in both portrait (vertical) and (horizontal) landscape formats. The orientation is greatly determined by the setting, such as an epic background or a location that gives context.
Capturing Images in horizontal format also gives the benefit of providing more cropping options. Professional Headshots are now used in a variety of ways including email signatures, business cards, websites, Zoom, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, etc. Also, corporate marketing materials often require unique photo sizes and cropping, depending on their design.
Each of these platforms has different dimension specifications and a landscape Image allows for easy cropping and resizing.
If you know exactly how your Corporate Headshot will be used, pls. let us know when booking and we will be sure the end result is tailored to your needs.
Need a hand sizing and optimizing Images for each or every online platform? We’re happy to help. Pls. contact us for further details.

How should I prepare for my Branding Photography Session?
You are your brand, and your brand is your reputation.
Think about the message you would like to convey and bring those thoughts to mind while having your Photograph taken.
A lot of times, the message you would like to communicate can be present in other aspects of the Image, in addition to your expression.
Wardrobe and especially accessories such as a signature color or piece of jewelry/tie/shirt color can also express the ideas you’d like to convey.
Background elements such as inspirational artwork can also add to the overall message of the Image.
If you plan to have your Team photographed, sometimes it’s a good idea to have a quick meeting the day before the Session to reaffirm your brand values, messaging and culture. Going over clothing options with everyone is also helpful.
Plan out the items you’d like photographed for flat lays and detail shots, and if possible set them aside in one place. Having them all together will let you know if something might be missing.

MUSICIAN PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ:
Collapsible content
What should I wear for my Musician Portraits Session?
Regional Musician magazine published some tips for a successful photo shoot Mark compiled over his career as a music photographer:
• When prepping for an upcoming shoot, sometimes a good place to start is by looking at other photos and album covers to see what you like. Having verbal discussions with band members, your team and the photographer to make sure everyone’s on the same page and after the same outcome is key. Having a cohesive style and image that all involved are happy with presenting is important
• Try to avoid getting a haircut or doing anything that radically changes your appearance just before the shoot in case you’re not happy with it
• Always bring lots of options when it comes to clothing and accessories to the shoot, more is always better than less; if it’s a band shoot, each member should bring as many options as possible, and be open to the possibility of lending a piece of clothing to a band mate for the session
• In terms of clothing, generally solid colors work best, no patterns or logos. I usually try to stay away from purple, as I find it tends to cause unflattering skin tones. Black is always great and really highlights the face, which should be the first thing someone sees in the photos
• When photographing bands, it’s nice when things coordinate in terms of color and style, so lots of different colors can also work great, as long as they don’t clash
• Keep in mind that fit is the most important thing. How clothes hang is more important than the actual garment itself
• Also, bring stuff you’re comfortable wearing, and what you wear on stage. The photos want to accurately represent who your fans will be seeing when they come to your shows
• When wearing makeup and planning on makeup changes, it’s best to start with a light application. It’s always easier and more time efficient to apply more, than to take away or start over if the makeup is looking too heavy in the photos
• Bring your instrument if you play one and it’s possible, along with a cool case (worn, weathered, with stickers, etc.) if you have
• Being on time really helps the photographer do the best job possible: having all band members present and ready when the light is perfect is a great way to start the shoot
• Coming to the shoot with good energy and an open mind can make for incredible photos, because you never know what’s going to work

Do you shoot Musician Portraits in horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait) orientation?
Mark provides a variety of Images in both portrait (vertical) and (horizontal) landscape formats. The orientation is greatly determined by the setting, such as an epic background or a location that gives context.
Capturing Images in horizontal format also gives the benefit of providing more cropping options. Musician Portrait Photography is used in a variety of ways including album and single covers and artwork, posters, merchandise, magazine and blog interviews, websites, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, etc. Various marketing materials often require unique photo sizes and cropping, depending on their design.
