Artist Statement
For nearly three decades, photography has allowed me to quietly enter thousands of human moments.
Every portrait begins the same way — with observation. A brief moment of trust. A glance toward the lens. A recognition that, for an instant, two people are truly seeing one another.
Over 29 years, I found myself returning again and again to the eyes within those photographs. They carried exhaustion, joy, ambition, grief, humor, defiance, vulnerability, and hope. They revealed something deeper than performance or identity. They revealed presence.
Eye Know Some People was created from 240 individual sets of eyes photographed throughout my career,
From a distance, the work appears unified. Up close, it fragments into hundreds of individual lives and moments
The piece became a reflection of something I have come to believe through portraiture itself: that no human experience exists entirely alone. We are shaped by one another constantly. Individual moments accumulate into collective memory. Separate lives become shared vision.
At its core, this work is about connection, observation, and the extraordinary humanity carried within a single glance.

“Photography brings a sense of CALMNESS to my life
When I look through the camera’s lens,
I’m able to FOCUS on what INTRIGUES me
In an overwhelming world, I see things a bit differently –
it’s the DETAILS that INSPIRE my CURIOSITY” MM
